TARDIS (Doctor Who)
The TARDIS is a fictional time-travelling machine created by the Gallifreyan race of Time Lords in the Doctor Who TV series. The name is actually an acronym which spells Time And Relative Dimension In Space.
A common misconception is that The Doctor's TARDIS is one of a kind. However, it is actually a Gallifreyan technology, and a number of the machines are known to have existed.
The Doctor's TARDIS
The Doctor travels in an obsolete Type 40 TARDIS which was stolen from the planet Gallifrey. A unique feature of the TARDIS is its broken chameleon circuit, which is stuck in the form of a 1950's police phone box.
Althought the exterior of the TARDIS is stuck in one form, the interior has undergone numerous changes. The inside of a TARDIS is notorious for being larger than the outside. This is because of something The Doctor has described as transdimensional engineering, i.e. that the outside and the inside of the TARDIS exist in two seperate dimensions simultaneously.
